I’m tired. This summer is moving at full speed, and I haven’t had a chance to catch my breath. Can you relate?
Both my sons are enrolled in summer camps. My husband travels regularly for work. Both sides of our family are hosting milestone celebrations. My youngest son plays summer ice hockey often in out-of-town tournaments. I’m exhausted, and I’m overwhelmed by basic tasks like grocery shopping and getting adequate sleep.
During this busy season, I revisited the Christian classic My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers. It’s a great daily devotional that helped me continue to read my Bible and pray even when my schedule feels chaotic.
Last week the devotion addressed Matthew 11:28, “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’” In his comments Chambers adds, “Our Lord’s words are not, ‘Do this, or don’t do that,’ but – ‘Come to me.’”

My tired mind and body desperately needed this reminder. Jesus isn’t asking me to add more to my to do list or disappointed in me for being unable to juggle it all. He is asking me to be with Him. When my schedule is full of traveling through different time zones and early morning hockey games, sometimes the last thing I want to do is read my Bible or pray. But Matthew 11:28 says that when I’m tired or weary from carrying so much on my shoulders, all I have to do is come to Jesus. In Him I will find rest.
