When Plans Fall Apart, Let God Lead the Way

Life doesn’t always go as planned. Nothing monumental occurred this week, but things didn’t happen how I thought they would. My oldest got braces on Monday afternoon and by Tuesday morning a bracket had already popped off. On Wednesday when my youngest got out of the car at school drop-off, he announced he forgot his backpack requiring me to go home, retrieve his bag, and drive back to school. Again, nothing life changing, but just enough disruption to wreak havoc on my schedule.

As all these interruptions occurred, my frustration grew. I was losing time I had planned for the things I wanted and needed to do. But as I drove those extra 40 minutes home and back to school, God recentered my thoughts. He reminded me to relax because He was working in the midst of this frustrating detour. Then He said, “Trust Me.” It was exactly what I needed to hear.

God can be trusted. He can be trusted with your major life decisions. He can also be trusted with the small, seemingly trivial things. God cares about every detail of your life.

While I’ve contemplated the events of the last few days and the frustration I felt by disrupted plans, I’ve meditated on Proverbs 16:9, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” As I design my days, weeks, and months, I must remember that God’s plans are best, and the steps He gives me are better than any planning I could do myself.

When you look for Jesus working in your life, you will find Him. When you trust Him, He will give you peace (Isaiah 26:3). When you commit every step to Him, you cannot fail (Proverbs 16:3).
